Kerala is one of India's most romantic destinations — and for very good reason. Misty hill stations, golden beaches, serene backwaters and lush spice plantations combine to create a natural paradise that feels tailor-made for honeymoons. This 5-day, 4-night itinerary is our most-requested honeymoon plan, refined over years of booking romantic Kerala escapes.
Day 1: Arrival in Kochi → Munnar
Your journey begins with pickup from Cochin International Airport or Ernakulam Railway Station. The 4-hour drive to Munnar is itself a treat — winding through rubber plantations, passing the cascading Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls, and ascending into the cloud-covered Western Ghats. Check into your hill resort and enjoy a romantic dinner overlooking the valley. Recommended area: Pallivasal or Devikulam — quieter than Munnar town with better views.
Day 2: Full Day Munnar — Tea, Mist & Mountains
After a leisurely breakfast, head out to explore Munnar's iconic sights. Start at Eravikulam National Park where the Nilgiri Tahr (endangered mountain goat) grazes fearlessly near visitors. Continue to Mattupetty Dam for a boat ride on the emerald reservoir. Echo Point and Kundala Lake in the afternoon, finishing with a sunset at Top Station — at 1,868 metres, the views extend all the way to Tamil Nadu on clear days. Evening: visit the TATA Tea Museum for a curated tea tasting experience.
Day 3: Munnar → Thekkady (90 km, ~3 hrs)
Check out after breakfast and drive to Thekkady through pepper and cardamom plantations. The air changes perceptibly — rich with spice aromas as you descend. Check into your spice plantation resort (many offer private cottage stays surrounded by cardamom bushes — extremely romantic). Afternoon: Periyar Lake boat safari — watch elephants, bison and spotted deer at the water's edge. Evening: guided spice plantation walk, followed by a traditional Kathakali dance performance at a cultural centre in town.
Day 4: Thekkady → Alleppey Houseboat (150 km, ~4 hrs)
The most anticipated day of most Kerala honeymoons. Transfer to Alleppey and board your private deluxe houseboat at noon. The next 21 hours are yours alone — cruising past paddy fields, coconut groves and little villages while your crew prepares freshly cooked Kerala meals. Watch the sun set over Vembanad Lake from your private deck. Sleep to the sound of water lapping against the hull. This is the memory you'll carry for years.
Day 5: Alleppey → Kochi Departure
Wake early for a final morning cruise on the glassy backwaters — mist rising, birds calling, the world impossibly still. Check out from the houseboat at 9:00 AM and transfer to Ernakulam or Kochi Airport. If your flight is in the evening, stop at Fort Kochi for a stroll along the waterfront, visit the Chinese fishing nets and browse the spice market. It's a perfect final chapter.
Accommodation Tips for Honeymooners
- In Munnar: choose resorts with private valley-view balconies. Cottages are preferable to hotel rooms.
- In Thekkady: spice plantation resorts offer the most romantic setting — you wake up in the middle of a cardamom garden.
- Houseboat: always request a premium deluxe boat with a private deck and a village canal overnight mooring rather than a noisy jetty area.
Budget Guide
- Economy honeymoon (standard resorts, standard houseboat): ₹12,000–15,000 per couple for the full package.
- Mid-range (3★ resorts, deluxe houseboat): ₹18,000–25,000 per couple.
- Luxury (4★ resorts, premium houseboat): ₹30,000–50,000+ per couple.
All our honeymoon packages include a private AC vehicle and driver throughout, all transfers, accommodation and daily breakfast.
Our secret tip: Tell us it's your honeymoon when you book. We coordinate small romantic touches with the hotels — flower decorations, a candle-lit dinner arrangement and a special on-board cake on the houseboat. These personal details cost very little but make the experience unforgettable.
